Swiped from Ithica as I know there are some on my flist that do not have him but this is important:
"This may strike some as silly or even some of you may wonder why I should care, today I heard of our Presidents speech asking Congress to vigorously support the Federal Marriage Amendment, I can think of nothing stupider to pass then this empty fluff of a Bill. Since when in the History of the Country, this Great and Glorious Nation of Ours. Concerned with who marries who I mean really, I have looked at the Constitution and even our Bill of Rights neither document says anything about Marriage, both are very clear on the separation of Church and State. Neither Document says anything about Adam and Eve, Adam and Steve or Andrea and Eve, they do state in unequalable. Terms that every Citizen has a Right to LIFE, LIBERTY and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS.
The passing of this Amendment and the others that are meant to protect our Freedoms are instead doing more harm than they are good. At this point if this course of events is to continue, sooner or later the people will wake up and when they do the Revolution that will occur will ignite this country into another Civil War. This time not as State against State, but as people against People the Right to self-determination and Individualism.
“We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
This is our Preamble, This is our Constitution this is not mere words this is the Bible of the United States of America this is our Faith. This document does not make one greater then the other; we are all equal in the eyes of this Document. There is no distinction between Christian, Muslim, Jew or Pagan. There is no distinction between Straight, Gay, BI-Sexual or celibate. Our Founding Fathers must be looking down on us with disgust and apathy they left us a Representative Democracy that in Two hundred years we have managed to piss away. We allowed those people who we choose to represent us too much laxity; we did not hold them to a Morale High ground of Protecting the People.
They now protect only themselves and their select Constituents. This bill this FMA should not Pass it should not see the light of day, it needs to be shot down and then buried for the good of all that is America, we are a Truth, we are a light that stands against the dark, we are America the Beautiful. We are many People, many Ideas, many Cultures. We are a great melting pot, to segregate that pot to not allow us to mix we then lose those things that are precious to us and to our Future generations.

Date: 2006-06-07 04:50 am (UTC)Marriage, being a religious rite, is specifically off limits to the government. Family, on the other hand, is the fundamental unit of a country and therefore is the business of the government. The question ought to be not "what constitutes a marriage?" but "what constitutes a family?" If two people mutually support one another physically and financially, with or without raising children together, why should it matter if they are two men, two women, or even sister and brother? There's absolutely nothing in that definition of family that allows or prohibits sex. Married people might not have sex and still be considered lawfully married.
What's demeaning to the definition of marriage and family is not that it might involve same-gender adults, but that people equate it with nothing more than a license to have sex - and then presume to make it the government's business whether there should be any limitations to that beyond "consenting adults".
